Latest player under the spotlight is Hazel Grove's Andy Gosling.
Have a read of his "Bowling" Profile. Anyone, and I mean anyone can have a go as I'm sure every player has something interesting to share regardless of what level they play at. Why not have a go at the profile thing yourself by dowloading the questionnaire HERE (click 'Save' when it opens, or copy and paste into something like Microsoft Word). The questions are only a guideline so feel free
to add in extra detail
or leave out bits you don't fancy, or send something completely different, then email back to us :- feedback@stockportbowls.co.uk and next 'It Could Be You'.
Name : Andy Gosling Club(s) : Hazel Grove Bowls you use : 2-10’s Best game you've ever played : Hard to select one from a 31 year bowling career Best player(s) you've ever beaten : Paul Garwood Your best bowling quality : Stickabilty – always keep going even if I’m getting hammered and getting the bowls out like a sack of spuds. Your worst bowling weakness : Not getting as near to the block as my opponent Best bowling achievement : Getting over some pretty serious back problems a couple of years back that I feared were going to force me to have to quit. Winning the Torkington Park Merit many moons ago was probably my pinnacle to date. Biggest bowling disappointment : The demise in the Parks League over recent times and the loss of some good local greens such as the Red Lion and Philips One rule you'd introduce/change : The formation of a League specifically for left handers . I would also like to see just black or brown woods allowed. The game is bowls not snooker!! Favourite green : Hazel Grove, Great Moor Cons, Victoria and any green on the Isle of Man in the sunshine. Most dreaded other green : LMRCA .. Never seem to have anywhere to go even when you do get in Ambition : Keep enjoying my bowls, the day it becomes a chore is when I pack up. I would also love to win the Waterloo, although it might help if I met them half way by entering it!) Funniest bowling moment : Slipping and losing my footing whilst chasing a wood in a Parks Doubles Cup Comp on a rain deluged and sodden Woodbank Park green. I ended up on my backside aqua-planing past the end. I also take my hat off to the brilliant excuses some bowlers use to explain away defeats .. the best I’ve heard being a Senior Bowling Official on the Stockport scene who once lost a game because his underpants were too tight. Best piece of advice you could give : Keep your cool, keep focused but most of all enjoy your bowling and play the game with a smile on your face. I’d like to think that none of my opponents have ever come off thinking “I hope I don’t play that miserable sod again”. |
