Name : Martin Walker Age : 29 Occupation : Pen pusher for an engineering firm Club(s) : Past & Present – Westpark, Highlane, Nurery, Waggon & Horses, Wilmslow BL, Mirrlees, Poynton Sports, Victoria BC Bowls you use : Taylor 2-10 Best game you've ever played : Semi-Final of Spring Waterloo 2000 against Dave Jones from Wrexham. Best player(s) you've ever beaten : Brian Duncan, Gary Ellis(many years ago), Andy Spragg(including a battering to 3 on the Waterloo – hehe), and many others, just to many to mention. Your best bowling quality : 17 1/2 metre marks & winding my opponents up!! Your worst bowling weakness : Not telling, or you'll all beat me. Best bowling achievement : Reaching final of Spring Waterloo 2000 Biggest bowling disappointment : The way I played in the final of the Spring Waterloo, in 2000. One rule you'd introduce/change : Reduce minimum mark to about 15ish, and if that's out of the question then just ban all long tapes completely, so the mark can't be measured. Favourite green : Packhorse (Macclesfield), but only when it is running fast Most dreaded other green : Wheatsheaf, along with several other away venues in the M.E.N. league Ambition : Got to be, to win the big one on the Waterloo and if that is out of the question, then to win a game for my county would do!!! Funniest bowling moment : Final of the Blackpool Spring bowls festival (Pontins) 2004, Myself, and two mates screaming at every bowl of Andy Spragg's in the main event final. Last end, corner to corner, total silence around the green apart from us 3 screaming ‘ARRIS' as Andy's last bowls runs into the back of his first short one and loses 21-20. Us 3 cheering rather loadly. Very funny at the time. Cheers Andy, wasn't upset with us for to long, maybe only 6 months!!! Best piece of advice you could give : Practise, practise, practise and always's reach your jack. As the oracle of bowls once said to me “You'll never win games being short Marto, never up never in Marto, no good being short when your not on Marto” (Thanks to JB for all your years of advise, it'll all pay off one day) |
