The Panel Premier Play Off Final Day
The winners returned from last weeks' blustery conditions to produce what some say was the best days bowling they had seen at the Red Lion for many a year.In freezing conditions the four bowlers set the place on fire with some consistently outstanding bowling.
First semi final saw the in-form Jimmy Taberner giving Dave Higginbottom 1 & jack.Even though the early stages were near enough level,Taberner with his unorthodox short marks saw the game home 41-33.
In the second semi between Wigan's Stuart Mort and Neil Jenkinson who disposed of favourite Noel Burrows with ease last week, startedoff level.Jenkinson dictated the match and even though Mort offered stiff resistance throughout,it was to be Jenkinson who made the final 41-27,to face Taberner.
The first Panel Premier Players Play-off got underway with Taberner giving 1 & jack.End after end the punters were witnessing a competitive game of the highest quality,as the lead exchanged with virtually every bowl sent.Various lenghts were adopted to outwit each other on the notorious Red Lion green, but still they couldn't steal a march on each other. The crowd responded to the close bowls being played with raptous applause and roars emulating the atmosphere of a football match at times.
There was nothing to split the players' exceptional bowling,as both looked capable of winning. The classic came to an end 41-39 in Jenkinsons' favour,to crown him the inagural Panel Premier Player.
