Poynton Sports Lee Fletcher wins the Cheshire merit beating Wharton Cons Thomas Vickers 21-10 in the final. After a fairly comfortable passage to the semis, seeing off Michael Yearsley to 10, Robert Winnington to 13 and Barry Ellams to 9, Fletcher came up against Rob O'Shea. The Poynton man just scraped into the final with the narrowest 21-20 victory.
In a small field for the Junior Cheshire Merit, Offerton's Scott Smith found himself in the semi's without playing a game. He then played well to overcome Wilmslow RBL's Ryan Sandham 21-18 to set up a final against last years Junior merit winner Craig Shaw from Castle Private. The Mid Cheshire lad just had a bit too much for Scott as he retained the title with a 21-14 victory.

The first Fantasy League Bowls league table is on the Fantasy Bowls page. The Vic's Gary Whittaker leads the way and has opened up a nice little gap in front of Jackie Gloag, Dave Wardle and Lee Fletcher. Gaz's team includes some of the current top early season performers in Neil Jenkinson, Ian Hibbert and the Grapes Dave Walker. At the bottom James Norths Keith Robins has it all to do to avoid ending up with the wooden spoon. It could all change next week though as the Transfer Window opens on Monday for 1 week. You can transfer up to 2 players as long as the total value of your team stays under £160 million. You lose the averages of the players you move out but for the players you bring in, their average counts from the start of the season.

The first qualifying round of the Stockport Parks Open at Torkington was dominated by a contingent from Shefield. Nick White and Rob Thompson battled for the first qualifying spot with Thompson just edging it 21-18. In the other qualifier Nursery's Gareth Gwilliam took on the other Sheffield man, David Hallam. In great form, Gwilliam made short work of it with a 21-8 victory.

Noel Burrows was on his 5th visit of the season to The Nursery and had previously lost only 1 of 7 games, that being the final of the Freddie Hulme Celebration Trophy. He was expected to qualify with little difficulty, but young Jack Hargreaves from Hyde who had come in as a reserve on the night had other ideas. He led 17 – 9, but Burrows showed all his experience to run out with a 12 break. Jack played well throughout and should be proud of his effort and sportsmanship in defeat. Barry Kirk looked in rude health and survived a 21-20 thriller with local, John Bennett in round 2 before dispatching last year's semi finalist, Dave Walker.

Becoming a bowls coach
With the increasing number of youngsters wishing to play bowls the game is crying out for more bowlers to become coaches. You do not have to be the best player to become a coach. If you have two or more years experience then why not come along and take a course in becoming a coach. As well as benefiting your own game you will gain a lot of satisfaction from being able to help others enjoy our great game of crown green bowls.
As the schools are now adding bowls to the curriculum the need for coaches increases even more. Please will you consider becoming a coach as you can help to encourage young and old to enjoy our game.
